The Brief
A monumental statement piece for the hotel lobby. Must withstand desert heat and humidity fluctuations.
The Process
Desert environments are unforgiving to stone. The thermal cycling between air-conditioned interiors and 50°C exterior temperatures can cause micro-fracturing in certain marbles. We selected Sichuan White for its thermal stability and treated the surface with a penetrating sealant developed for exterior architectural applications in the Gulf. The piece was installed in a 12-meter-high lobby.
